Another disc from 'The English Orpehus' series featuring The Parley of Instruments. It is the first recording of Haydn's English Psalm Settings alongside music by his circle of friends and admirers. Another disc where Tim was known as 'Timothy Kenworthy-Brown' singing solos and consort pieces with string quartet. Of particluar note is the song Hear my prayer, written by J.A.Dahmen, who came from a large musical German family and was one of the cellist's who played for Haydn whilst he was in London. The songs are among the earliest for voice and string quartet and combine the sophisticated idiom of Haydn's late quartets with the style of the German lied.
